STATE CAN MAKE FURTHER PROGRESS IN KEY SECTORS: PRESIDENT
Her
Excellency, the President of India, Smt. Pratibha Patil
was given a rousing civic reception at the Central Stadium
in Thiruvananthapuram on 1st November 2007. Chief Minister
V.S. Achuthanandan, Cabinet ministers, Mayor of Thiruvananthapuram
and other dignitaries were present. The President inaugurated
three comprehensive and substantive schemes of the LDF
Government, intended to contribute immensely to human
resource development in the State.

The Clean Kerala Scheme envisages to make Kerala totally
clean by collecting and processing all sorts of waste in
a period of three years. The Total Physical Fitness Scheme
intends to develop physical fitness among all students of
the age group 9 - 19. Under the Scholarship scheme meant
for promoting education among poorer sections of society
10,000 Higher Secondary students will get scholarship of
Rs. 5,000/-.
Inaugurating these programmes, Her Excellency hoped that
through Clean Kerala scheme Kerala might get rid of infectious
diseases. She pointed out that the State is facing great
challenges in the field of public health. By resolving these
problems, Kerala can make further progress in tourism, education,
exports etc. She wanted the State to bestow great attention
on the development of I.T. The State can also give impetus
to industrial development by attracting non-resident Keralites
in the Gulf countries for investment.
