First Scientific Resource Map

First Scientific map of the natural resources of Kerala is brought out. Although details about Kerala’s natural resources have been recorded by satellite mapping earlier this is for the first time for any State to publish a resource map. The resource map is further elucidated by a digital database. Taking the proposal in this regard from the State Planning Board, Centre for Earth Science Studies, Thiruvananthapuram and State Remote Sensing and Environment Centre jointly prepared the resource map and database with technological and financial support from ISRO. Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan released the resource map and database by giving a copy to Dr. Prabhat Patnaik, Vice- Chairman, and State Planning Board.  I.S.R.O. Chairman Madhavan Nair delivered the keynote address on the occasion. The resource map and satellite database will enable planners and captains of industry/commerce to plan their activities without any loss of time by providing details at their fingertips.
