Vizhinjam Mother Port Infrastructure


Work on the development of infrastructure for Vizhinjam International container Transshipment Terminal will be started soon. The State cabinet has sanctioned Rs. 450/- crore for the purpose. Vizhinjam International Seaport Limited (VISL) the government company formed for implementing the project will start building the proposed road and other facilities for the project. VISL is entrusted with the task of drawing up the proposal for the development of the road and railway line for the port. The company is to hold discussion shortly with the National Highways Authority of India and the Railways in this regard
.
Meanwhile, steps are taken to float fresh global tenders for selecting private partner for building and operating the transshipment terminal. It will be possible to identify the private partner by the end of next year. Earlier attempts to finalise global tenders had to be aborted for want of central clearance, court cases and other complications.
