Unprecedented Infrastructure Development
The last three years of Left Democratic Front Government in Kerala witnessed unprecedented progress in the field of infrastructure development in the State. The Public Works Department initiated road development works to the tune of Rs. 3,000 crore. With the financial assistance of NABARD, the government restarted drinking water distribution projects that were stalled owing to lack of funds. The first phase of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) assisted water distribution project has also been completed. Works estimated at Rs. 870 crore has been newly started in this sector. Roads and Bridges Development Corporation of Kerala Ltd. has been directed to take up construction of 23 railway over bridges.
The decision of the all-party meeting to bring down the width of the National Highways in the State to 30 meters is forwarded to the Prime Minister. Projects providing land and housing to the poor have been taken up by the government. District Panchayats have completed the construction of several roads in the rural areas under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).
