Urgent Measures against Swine Flu
The State Health Department decided to take urgent measures to control the spread of Swine flue in Kerala. Special treatment centers are to be opened shortly in all 14 districts. Seven to ten private hospitals will be selected from each district by the respective District Medical Officers to handle the epidemic. At least ten hospitals in a district are to be provided with quarantine facilities. The hospitals with ICU and ventilator facility will be chosen for the purpose. The private hospitals will also be allowed to start screening centres. The selected government hospitals will also be equipped to collect swab samples. So far, in Kerala, 53 confirmed cases of swine flue have been reported and 20 patients are quarantined. The swabs of these patients have been sent to NICD, New Delhi. The situation is completely under control.
