Cabinet approval for the project ‘Development of Kovalam and adjacent beaches’
The cabinet has given approval for the Rs.93 crores special project to redevelop Kovalam, the most popular beach destination in south India and its adjacent beaches, also to ensure coastal protection measures there.
Kovalam is one of the most favourite beaches among the domestic and foreign tourists alike. Kovalam, which has three crescent shaped beaches, is popular for its low depth as well as calm tidal waves. The redevelopment of beach area, aimed at attracting more visitors, will be done in two phases.
The first phase of the project includes development of basic facilities at Eve’s beach (Hawwah beach), Light House beach, renovation of Silent Valley Sunbath park, development of Corporation land, providing accessibility to Corporation land, improving accessibility to the IB beach, making boundaries of IB beach & Adimalathura beach and acquiring of Coconut plantations.
Further development of IB beach, Adimalathura beach and development of land around coconut plantations will be taken up in the second phase. The cabinet has given approval to take WAPCOS as the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) to implement the project which costs Rs.93 crores.
New posts
It was decided to create 35 posts towards starting a Polytechnic College at Naduvil, Kannur district.
It was decided to create 110 supernumerary posts in the Higher Secondary English Junior section. The posts are meant for the current academic year. These 110 posts include the excess posts arisen as per the government order taken out in the year 2017, of which the persons are continuing in service as well as the 47 posts to which appointment needs to be done as per the verdict of Supreme Court. The personnel in these supernumerary posts will be given reappointment as and when the permanent vacancy arises.
Government will borne the cost of treatment
It was decided that the cost of treatment of Shri. Ajikumar T, Village Officer, Punnala, who sustained serious injuries after falling down from building while delivering official duties and currently undergoing treatment, will be completely borne by the government.
